Boom Box Open

Thanks to all those who participated in the First Annual Boom Box Open And Auction!

The threat of rain and temperatures in the 90′s didn’t stop more than 80 golfers from participating in the First Annual Boom Box Open And Auction on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Aurora Golf Club in Aurora, Ohio. All proceeds from the event benefitted Mission4Maureen.

Young, and not-so-young golfers began the day with registration at noon for their round of golf and the many contests that were scheduled. Prizes included chances to win a brand new 2011 Chevrolet Camero, sponsored by Tim Lally Chevrolet. Along with the chance to win a new car were two “hole in one” contests that would net the winner one million dollars should their ball go in the cup or one hundred thousand dollars for the player closest to the pin. Everyone enjoyed the excitement and attempts to win but unfortunately no one did.

Preceding the registration, a spectacular lunch was served out on the veranda which included burgers, hotdogs with all the trimmings, chips and of course a favorite beverage.

Following lunch Don Qualters, our event producer and director, established the ground rules for all the foursomes with regard to the three hole in one contests as well as special instructions for hole number 17. Don explained how much Maureen Lowis loved to play golf but how she loathed wearing golf shoes. So, on that hole, each player had to play the hole barefooted in honor of Maureen. The last rule Don made was that every cart HAD to have a boom box playing their own choice of music. It’s a good thing we had the course to ourselves as we had the music from the 70′s, 80′s, 90′s, hip-hop, hard rock and country blaring from all around the course.

Unfortunately, the heavens opened up when the round was just about to finish and while some finished there were a few who were unable to complete the entire round of golf. After everyone dried off they gathered in the dining room for dinner, drinks, drawings and prizes.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Don & Lynn Qualters for putting this event together along with the many volunteers who made this such a successful event. We look forward to next year’s outing which has already been scheduled for July 21, 2012. We hope you will join us!
